My Love Letter Time Machine – Janie and Fred – the podcast

After a long hiatus and then a bit of a flurry a few weeks ago on this blog, you would be right to be wondering what I’m actually up to and if Fred and Janie’s story will continue to be told. After such a long break it took me a while to be able to pick up the threads of their story again and I ended up going back to the beginning – but because I’ve learned so much since then, I was wondering where to put all this new information. Long story short, I’ve started a podcast – called My Love Letter Time Machine.

There’s a new episode out once a week – wherever you get your podcasts or you can find them all in this link – and more importantly I’m approaching the point in the story where I can marry up both the podcast, and this blog and continue with renewed enthusiasm into the future. The blog thus far has provided the foundation of Season 1 – about 10-12 episodes which take us up to the point in this blog where Fred left Sheffield for Middlesbrough. When Season 2 comes out, it will take us through the bulk of the back and forth correspondence we have between Janie and Fred.

For those that enjoy podcasts, I hope this a a great way of being able to immerse yourself in Fred and Janie’s world, and for those that just want to find out the extra detail – there are transcripts available on every episode.

This blog and Season 2 will continue in Spring of 2022. Thank you so much for your support so far. Ingrid.

  1. Hi – I came across your blog while searching for family history information on ancestors from Sheffield with steel and cutlery connections – and I have read it from start to finish in one sitting!
What an amazing collection of intimate social history to have been passed down – thank you so much for sharing it and saving it for posterity.
These letters really bring to life the ‘ordinary’ routines and personal dramas of the period – such busy lives they led despite the lack of electricity in the home.
    Thank you!

    1. Hi Frances, thank you so much for your comment. I’m still continuing the story and research and now publising it as a podcast, but I have also posted up all the transcripts so you can carry on readying if you like – so if you go straight to season 2, you’ll be able to read all the rest of it if you want. In episode the episode ‘Knives Forks and the Cutler’s Feast I actually find the links w the cutlers and Janie writes about visitng the Cutlers Hall. https://mylovelettertimemachine.buzzsprout.com/ To find the transcript, click on the episode, scroll down a bit, and then you can click ‘Transcipt’ next to where it says ‘Show Notes’. I think we are up to 140 thousand words in total by now so I suggest you make tea! 🙂
